NEW YORK, N.Y. - Christina Guerland had three hits, including an RBI single in the sixth inning that snapped a 4-4 tie, as Yale edged Manhattan 5-4 to earn a split of a non-league doubleheader at Bahoshy Field on Fordham's campus. Freshmen Aracelis Torres and Courtney Blachford each added two hits for the Bulldogs, and Ashley Linnenbank went the distance on the mound, allowing only one earned run. Manhattan won the first game 10-2.
The Jaspers (5-6) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of the second game on RBI singles by Kiera Fox and Marina Ysaac.
Kristy Kwiatkowski's double plated Blachford in the third inning, and the Bulldogs (4-10) took a 3-2 lead in the fifth on Torres' two-out, two-run single.
After Manhattan scored twice in the bottom of the fifth, Yale rallied for two runs in the sixth. With one out, Niki Haab singled, advanced to second on a ground out and scored on Blachford's single to right that got by the rightfielder, which allowed Blachford to end up on third. Guerland followed with a single to left.
In the first game, Fox singled, doubled and homered to lead the Jaspers, who scored four runs in the second inning to grab the early lead.
Jill Medea pitched six innings, struck out four and allowed only one earned run to earn the victory on the mound for Manhattan.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they play a doubleheader at Wagner at 3 p.m.
