STORRS, Conn. -- Krista Michalczyk pitched a two-hit shutout as UConn edged Yale 3-0 to complete a doubleheader sweep. Michalczyk struck out three and walked two. Leah Kelley and Beth Pavlicek both singled for the Bulldogs. The Huskies (10-11) won the first game 3-2. Chelsea Kanyer had a pair of hits for Yale (6-12).
In the opener, the Bulldogs trailed 3-0 entering the seventh inning. Kanyer, Kristy Kwiatkowski and Katharine Shiota each singled to load the bases. Kate Meserve knocked in the first run with a ground out. With two out and runners on second and third, Britni Fabacher singled to centerfield. Kwiatkowski scored to make it 3-2, but pinch runner Libby Peters was thrown out at the plate to end the game.
In the second game, UConn scored all three of its runs in the second. Jillian Miles pitched a complete game for Yale, allowing only four hits and two earned runs, while striking out three. The Bulldogs again threatened in the seventh inning. They had runners on first and second with one out, but Michalczyk induced a game-ending double play grounder.
Yale returns to action on Saturday with a doubleheader at Marist. The Bulldogs then return to New Haven to play their home opener against Manhattan on Sunday at 1 p.m.
