NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Libby Peters singled home Niki Haab with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Yale to a thrilling 2-1 victory over St. John's in the second game of a doubleheader at DeWitt Family Field. Peters was 2-for-3. Peggy Hunt pitched a complete game, scattering seven hits to earn the victory. St. John's won the first game 2-0.
Haab started the winning rally with an infield single. She advanced to second on a passed ball and scored easily on Peters' solid single to right field.
Jessica Marical doubled to lead off the top of the seventh for St. John's, but Hunt retired the next three hitters to work out of the jam.
The first game was a pitching duel between Yale's Ashley Linnenbank and St. John's Lisa Geer. Linnenbank went six innings, allowed five hits and struck out three.
Allina Sainz's two-run single in the sixth accounted for the only runs of the game.
Geer had seven strikeouts in six innings and yielded only three hits. Brittany Crouch pitched a perfect seventh to earn the save.
Kwiatkowski and Peters both doubled for Yale (6-12). Chelsea Kanyer added a single.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday when they host Central Connecticut in a doubleheader. The first pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m.
