Bulldogs Sweep Central Connecticut, 3-2 & 4-0

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Christina Guerland's single to centerfield scored Danielle Kozlowski to snap a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning as Yale rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Central Connecticut in the first game of a doubleheader. Kozlowski had two hits for the Bulldogs, and Peggy Hunt pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless relief. Rebecca Wojciak tossed a two-hit shutout in the second game as Yale completed a sweep with a 4-0 victory.

In the opener, the Bulldogs (24-14) trailed 2-0 after four innings. Kate Meserve drew a walk to lead off the fifth, and Kyli Hanson followed with a long home run to left field.

In the seventh, Kozlowski singled to center with one out. She moved to second on a wild pitch and scored easily on Guerland's single.

Central Connecticut (2-26) threatened in the bottom of the seventh. Allison Rossi walked to lead off the inning and advanced to second on Tracy Guerrera's sacrifice bunt. Hunt, though, retired the next two hitters to end the game. Hunt allowed only one hit and struck out five.

Deanna DiBernardi pitched the first 3.1 innings, struck out one and allowed four hits. Courtney Blachford and Katie Edwards also had hits.

The Blue Devils grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on Pam Shifrin's RBI single. Deb Munson then led off the fourth with a home run to left.

In the second game, Wojciak didn't allow a hit after the second inning. She retired 16 of the last 17 batters she faced. Megan Enyeart was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI, and Aracelis Torres added two hits.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the third when Guerland doubled and scored on Meredith Parks's sacrifice fly to center field.

Yale tacked on two more in the fourth on Enyeart's two-run single that scored Kozlowski and Hanson. Kozlowski scored again in the sixth when Parks reached on an error.

The Bulldogs have now won 12 straight games against Central Connecticut.

After playing 34 of its first 38 games away from home, Yale returns to friendly confines of Dewitt Family Field for a pair of doubleheaders this weekend. The Bulldogs host Dartmouth on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Harvard on Easter Sunday at noon.
