NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Ashley Linnenbank pitched a three-hit shutout as Yale edged Fairfield 2-0 to earn a split of a non-league doubleheader at DeWitt Family Field. Meredith Parks and Kristy Kwiatkowski each had two hits for the Bulldogs. Fairfield won the first game 6-4.

The second game was scoreless until the Bulldogs pushed across two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, Kwiatkowski and Christina Guerland both singled. Chelsea Kanyer then delivered a solid single to centerfield, which scored Kwiatkowski. After Parks singled to load the bases, Emily Lederer drew a walk to make it 2-0.

Fairfield's Breanne Morschauser doubled with two-out in the seventh, but Linnenbank retired pinch-hitter Erin Frank on a pop-up to third base to end the game.

Linnenbank was outstanding. She retired the first 11 batters she faced before Ringnalda singled with two out in the fourth. The only other Stags to reach base were Molly Harris, who singled in the sixth, and Morschauser in the seventh. Linnenbank struck out one, did not issue a walk and benefitted from a flawless Yale defense.

In the first game, Tara Hansen hit a two-run homer and Shannon Logan added a solo shot, both in the fifth inning, as the Stags built a 6-1 lead and then hung on for the victory.

The Bulldogs (12-18) trailed 6-2 entering the bottom of the seventh inning but staged a rally. Courtney Blachford led off with a single. Kwiatkowski and Guerland then both singled to load the bases. Parks' ground out scored Blachford, and Kwiatkowski scored when Aracelis Torres reached on an error to make it 6-4, but that was the way the game ended.

Yale had 10 hits in the game, all singles, but left eight runners on base.

Emily Lederer had an RBI single in fourth, and Kanyer's single scored pinch-runner Libby Peters in the fifth.

Jessica Meyer pitched 4.1 innings and allowed only three earned runs for the Bulldogs.

Tracy Sylvestre pitched a complete game for Fairfield. She struck out two and allowed only two earned runs.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they play a doubleheader at Columbia beginning at 1 p.m.
