PHILADELPHIA -- Kristy Kwiatkowski hit a two-run home run in the second inning and a two-run double in the fifth as Yale cruised to a 6-0 victory over Penn in the first game of an Ivy League doubleheader. Leah Kelley went 3 -for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored, while freshman Meredith Parks added an RBI single. The Bulldogs completed the sweep with a 5-0 win in the second game. Kelley, Chelsea Kanyer and Christina Guerland each had two hits for Yale, which improved to 23-15 overall and 5-1 in Ivy League play.

"Good defense and timely hitting is the name of the game," said Yale head coach Andy Van Etten, "but it all starts with pitching, and we've had outstanding pitching."

In the first game, the Bulldogs took an early 2-0 lead in the second. Kanyer led off with a walk, and Kwiatkowski followed with her third home run of the season, off the scoreboard in left field. Parks' RBI single in the fourth increased the lead to 3-0, and Yale sealed the victory with a three-run fifth. Kwiatkowski doubled home Kelley and Kanyer and then scored on an error.

Peggy Hunt pitched six scoreless innings to earn her team-leading ninth win of the season. She allowed only four hits and struck out six. Ashley Linnenbank worked a scoreless seventh inning.

In the second game, the Bulldogs again jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on RBI singles in the first from Kanyer and Emily Lederer. Kanyer also drove home Yale's third run with a single in the third, and the Bulldogs added two more in the sixth. Kate Meserve walked to start the rally and moved to second on Kelley's bunt single. Guerland followed with single to load the bases and then Beth Pavlicek drove home Meserve with a sacrifice fly to right. Kelley also scored on the play on a throwing error.

Pavlicek went six innings, struck out four and allowed only one hit to notch the win. Linnenbank again pitched a scoreless seventh.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Sunday when they play a doubleheader at Princeton at 1 p.m.
