NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Jillian Miles pitched a two-hitter and Kristy Kwiatkowski hit a three-run home run as Yale cruised to a 4-1 victory over Central Connecticut to complete a doubleheader sweep. Miles struck out four and walked only one to earn her fourth win of the season. Leah Kelley added two hits for the Bulldogs, who reached the 30-win plateau for only the third time in school history. Yale (30-20) won the first game 3-1. Kwiatkowski and Chelsea Kanyer both had two hits, and pitcher Peggy Hunt scattered four hits to notch her team-leading 12th win of the season.
Kristin Kropp's sacrifice fly in the third inning of the first game gave Central Connecticut a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs, though, tied it in the fourth when Kanyer doubled and scored on Kwiatkowski's single to right. Kanyer's second double of the game drove home Kelley and gave Yale a 2-1 lead in the fifth. Beth Pavlicek followed with another double to score Kanyer.
Hunt tossed her 11th complete game of the season. She struck out five, did not issue a walk and now has a stellar 0.92 earned run average.
In the second game, Miles had a no-hitter until Tracy Guerrera singled with one out in the bottom of the sixth.
Yale broke a scoreless tie in the fifth when Britni Fabacher's single to right scored Emily Lederer. In the sixth, Kanyer singled and Pavlicek walked before Kwiatkowski belted her team-leading fourth home run of the season. She also leads the team with 29 RBI.
The Bulldogs can set a school record for victories in a season with a pair of wins over Brown in Saturday's season finales. The first pitch of the first game is slated for 1 p.m.
