NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Eight home dates, including back-to-back doubleheaders with league rival Dartmouth, highlight the 2009 Yale Softball Schedule. The Bulldogs are scheduled to play 46 games this spring, starting with the annual season-opening trip to Kissimmee, Fla.
Yale will see a number of familiar faces at the Rebel Games in Florida. Maine (Mar. 8), Butler (Mar. 9), Bucknell (Mar. 9), Eastern Kentucky (Mar. 11), La Salle (Mar. 11 & 14), Valparaiso (Mar. 12), Youngstown State (Mar. 12), Army (Mar. 15) and Wagner (Mar. 15) have all been on the schedule in recent years. Only Bryant (Mar. 8) and South Dakota (Mar. 14) are first-time opponents.
The Bulldogs play their home opener at Dewitt Family Field on Mar. 21 against Marist. The last time the Red Foxes visited New Haven in 2007, Yale banged out 19 hits en route to a doubleheader sweep. Marist, though, returned the favor by winning both games last year in Poughkeepsie.
Ivy League play begins on Mar. 28 with a doubleheader against defending champion Princeton. The Bulldogs then travel to Cornell for the first time since 2005 to take on the Big Red on Mar. 29.
Yale plays its first four-game series against Ivy North Division competition on Apr. 11-12 at Harvard. The Bulldogs host Dartmouth in back-to-back doubleheaders on Apr. 18-19 and then conclude the regular season with a home-and-home series with Brown, including Senior Day at Dewitt Family Field on Apr. 25.
The Bulldogs, who won 20 games last year, return 14 letterwinners and eight starters.
