NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale softball team has one last chance to work out the kinks before the start of Ivy League play this weekend. The Bulldogs travel to West Point, N.Y., for a doubleheader with Army on Wednesday. Yale and Army are playing for the second time this season. Rebecca Wojciak pitched a three-hit shutout as the Bulldogs blanked the Black Knights 3-0 nearly two weeks ago at the Rebel Games in Florida. Yale has won seven straight games over Army and leads the all-time series 16-3.
In four games over the weekend, Yale's pitchers posted a 1.62 earned run average, but the Bulldogs committed 10 errors which led to seven unearned runs.
Designated player Katie Edwards was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll on Tuesday. She batted .357 (5-for-14) with a double, a homer and four RBI in six games last week. She also walked eight times to post a .591 on base percentage. Her home run against Stony Brook was the 16th of her career, one shy of Shayna Filson's school record.
Army (9-14) has gone 6-3 since falling to the Bulldogs at the Rebel Games. Jessi Muckelroy was named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week on Monday. She won four games last week, including notching a pair of shutouts. In 26 innings, she struck out 16 and had a 0.26 ERA. Muckelroy allowed only two earned runs in seven innings against Yale on Mar. 15.
Alexis AuBuchon leads the Black Knights with a .362 batting average. Erin McClain has a team-best two home runs and 11 RBI.
Yale being Ivy play on Saturday with a doubleheader at Princeton and then is at Cornell for a pair on Sunday.
