Edwards Named To Northeast Region First Team

May 15, 2009

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The honors continue to come in for the Yale softball team. Designated player Katie Edwards, who tied for the team lead in home runs with three, has been named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Northeast Region First Team.

Edwards, who on Thursday was named second team All-Ivy, was second on the team in RBI (23) and doubles (7). She batted .336 and had a .491 slugging percentage. She accomplished all that despite undergoing off-season shoulder surgery that kept her from catching, the position she had played in her first three years. Edwards, a senior from Morton Grove, Ill., finished her career tied for the Yale all-time home run record (17) and third in career RBI (89).

The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. The NFCA Division I All-American teams will be announced at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 27.
