NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The No. 5 Yale Bulldogs lost 7-2 to the No. 1 Harvard Crimson Saturday at the Brady Squash Center.
Yale (9-4, 3-3 Ivy) played several strong matches but could not match the top-to-bottom strength of Harvard (9-0, 6-0 Ivy).
The Bulldogs dropped 3-0 matches at the No. 1, No. 4, No. 5, No. 7, No. 8 and No. 9 positions. Freshman Katie Ballaine lost a heartbreaking 3-2 match to Cantab Cece Cortes at the No. 6 position. Senior captain Alia Aziz earned a 3-1 victory at the No. 2 position over Nirasha Guruge, while at the No. 3 position junior Sarah Toomey defeated Harvard's Alisha Mashruwala 3-1.
Harvard's victory completed a perfect regular season for the Cantabs, who will head into team tournament play as the No. 1 ranked team. Following the match, the Crimson team was presented with the Ivy League championship trophy for its accomplishments.
With its regular-season slate of games finished, the Bulldogs will focus their attention on postseason play. Yale will host the Howe Cup between Feb. 26 and 28 at the Brady Squash Center, and the CSA Singles Championships will take place between Mar. 5 and 7 at Dartmouth's Berry Center in Hanover, N.H.
