Yale Beats Penn 5-4, Bates 9-0
New Haven, Conn. - The Yale women's squash team opened the 2010-11 season with wins over Penn and Bates Saturday at the Brady Squash Center, besting the Quakers 5-4 and the Bobcats 9-0.
Yale scored its first win over Penn after 4 straight years of losses. In a very tight and exciting match, depth won the contest for Yale by taking the 6 through 9 spots and winning at number 1. Captain Logan Greer secured the win at number one with a dominating 3-0 victory in the top spot. Freshman Lily Fast and Gwen Tilghman won close matches at 6 and 7 by the scores of 3-2 and 3-1, respectively. Sophomore Katie Ballaine and Sr. Caroline Reigeluth picked up the other two wins in the eight and nine spots with the scores of 3-1 and 3-0. After losing to Penn 8-1 last season, Yale showed its improvement in securing this Ivy win.
The Bulldogs had no trouble putting Bates away, winning 9-0 against the Bobcats without dropping a game.
