Faceoff at No. 4 seed
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Yale Women's Squash team travels to New York this weekend to face No. 7 Columbia on Saturday and No. 12 Cornell on Sunday. Both matches are noon starts.
Since the 2010-2011 season, the Elis are 8-0 against Columbia and 12-0 against Cornell.
Columbia is 5-3 on the season, surrendering losses only to No. 2 Trinity, No. 3 Harvard and No. 4 Stanford. The Lions have a young squad, containing mostly sophomores, but only two first years, one of whom is in the team's No. 8 seed.
In terms of individual ratings, Columbia and Yale are very evenly matched, especially between their No. 4 seeds. Yale's No. 4 seed, Aishwarya Bhattacharya, is 7-3 on the season compared to Columbia's Habiba Mohamed who is 6-2. Their individual ratings are nearly identical, with Bhattacharya having the slight edge. Both athletes are coming off wins.
Cornell is 3-7 on the season, coming off back-to-back wins against George Washington and Franklin & Marshall. Cornell has a well-balanced squad with a strong veteran presence and five first-years, two of whom are the team's No. 1 and No. 2 seeds.
The Elis have only four matches left in the regular season. Results from this weekend's matches will be updated live on the CSA website.
