Yale Dominates Big Red, 9-0

ITHACA, NY - Yale crushed Cornell on Saturday in Ithaca, beating the Big Red by a score of 9-0. In a thoroughly dominant performance, the Bulldogs won eight of the nine matches in three games.

After getting through a tough 10-8 first game, No. 1 Miranda Ranieri blitzed Alex Cornett 9-2, 9-2 in the final two games in her victory. No. 2 Catherine McLeod and No. 8 Nicola Shiels returned to the lineup to post impressive wins as well. McLeod defeated Rachel Wagner 3-0 (9-0, 9-0, 9-6) and Shiels thrashed Margot Dickson 3-0 (9-2, 9-1, 9-0).

No. 3 Alia Aziz continued her strong rookie season with a 9-4, 9-0, 9-5 win over Mairin Barnes, and captain Kate Rapisarda played a strong No. 5, beating Annie Ritter 9-0, 9-0, 9-1. No. 8 Tara Wadhwa dropped a tough 10-8 second game in her match against Anna Beavis, but was still able to come through with a 9-0, 8-10, 9-3, 9-0 win.

Rounding out the Bulldog wins were No. 4 Lauren McCrery, who beat Liza Stokes 9-4, 9-1, 9-0, No. 7 Jessica Balderston, who defeated Alix Watson 9-0, 9-0, 9-1, and No. 9 Elisabeth Hill, who throttled Jamie Singer 9-0, 9-1, 9-0.

"The match was a real confidence-booster for Trinity on Tuesday," said Associate Head Coach Gareth Webber. "That one's going to be a tough fight."

Heading into action on Saturday, perennial powerhouse Trinity, who Yale will play on Tuesday in Hartford, had not lost a match.
