Harvard Defeats Yale 6-3

Feb. 21, 2007

Cambridge, MA - Coming off a fourth place finish in the Howe Cup, the No. 4 Bulldogs fell to the No. 2 Crimson 6-3. Junior Miranda Ranieri, senior Kate Rapisarda, and senior Nicola Shiels all came away with victories for Yale in the loss.

In Yale's last team match of the season, Harvard, a team who came in second in the Howe Cup just a week ago, was too much for the Bulldogs. Ranieri won at No. 2 9-6, 9-4, 8-10, 9-5. Rapisarda blew by her opponent at No. 5 in three 9-3, 9-4, 9-7. Shiels, who has struggled of late to find victories, won at No. 6 5-9, 9-7, 9-7, 9-3.

Senior Catherine McLeod fell for the first time all season at No. 1 in four. McLeod, though, is expected to contend for the individual championship in the beginning of March.

Associate Head Coach Gareth Webber said the Bulldogs were more competitive with the Crimson than the score suggests.

"It was tighter than what the score reflects," Webber said. "It was unlucky with the women. We left it all out there on the courts."
