Philadelphia, PA - Senior Catherine McLeod and junior Miranda Ranieri advanced to the quarterfinals of the 32-player Ramsay Division (women's A) at the CSA Individual Championships Friday. McLeod, the No. 3 seed, and Ranieri, the No. 8 seed, both won two matches to advance to the quarterfinals.
McLeod cruised through both of her opponents by winning 9-6, 9-1, 9-1 against Dartmouth's Christina Alexander in the round of 32 and then by defeating Princeton's Amanda Siebert 9-5, 9-0, 9-3 in the round of 16. Ranieri sailed by her first opponent Mt. Holyoke's Pam Anckerman 9-6, 9-1, 9-3 in the first round before pulling out a five game victory against Trinity's Lauren Polonich in the second round.
McLeod will play No. 6 Neha Kumar of Princeton in the quarterfinals Saturday. If she wins, she will advance to a possible semifinal match up against Stanford's No. 2 Lily Lorentzen, the defending CSA champion. Ranieri will challenge Harvard's Kyla Grigg, who is seeded No. 1, in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Seniors Lauren McCrery and Kate Rapisarda and freshman Alia Aziz all fell in the first round of the CSA Individuals. Both McCrery and Aziz won their consolation matches in three games to advance to the consolation quarterfinals.
