Eight players on the National Champion women's squash team competed in the A bracket at the 2004 CSA Individual Championships, more than any other team. Three Yale players won both games Friday to advance to Saturday's quarterfinal round: No. 2 Michelle Quibell, No. 4 Amy Gross, and No. 5 Catherine McLeod.
Quibell's route to the quarterfinals began with an easy 9-1, 9-4, 9-0 victory over Trinity's Fernanda Rocha, and continued when she faced teammate Frances Ho in the second round. Quibell defeated Ho 9-4, 9-1, 9-6, and will face Trinity's No. 7 Pam Saunders tomorrow morning.
Amy Gross bested Princeton's Genevieve Lessard 9-7, 9-4, 9-0 in the first round before facing Julia Drury from Dartmouth in the second. Defeating Drury 10-8, 9-1, 9-3, Gross now stands to play teammate McLeod in the quarterfinals.
McLeod earned her matchup with Gross by defeating Crosby Haynes from Dartmough in an easy 9-1, 9-1, 9-4 match and then battling Princeton's Ali Pearson in a four-game match with a 9-7, 7-9, 9-3, 9-0 score.
The CSA championships, hosted by St. Lawrence University, continue tomrorrow with the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.
