BOSTON – The annual tri-meet between Harvard, Princeton and Yale is underway at Harvard's Blodgett Pool, with the Bulldogs trailing the Crimson and the Tigers after the first day of competition. Right now Harvard leads Yale 118-32, while Princeton is closer to Yale's reach at 116-34. The highlight of the night was Yale's diving squad putting two of their own in the top three in the one-meter event, with the three-meter event still to come tomorrow.
The evening began with the 200-yard medley relay, where Yale came in fifth with a time of 1:45.70. Yale's 'A' flight of Cynthia Tsay, Athena Liao, Hayes Hyde and Joan Weaver finished over a second faster than Tsay, Liao, Hyde and Alexandra Forrester did for a first-place finish against Dartmouth and Penn three weeks ago (1:46.88).
In the 1000-yard freestyle, Abigail Nunn finished seventh with a time of 10:28.69, with Courtney Randolph not far behind in ninth (10:44.08). Joan Weaver finished ninth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.02, followed by Tsay taking seventh in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.59.
Liao then finished eighth in a very close 100-yard breaststroke. Liao was fourth at the 50-yard mark and went on to finish with a time of 1:04.43. Less than two seconds separated 10th place from the winning time (1:03.01).
Hyde took eighth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.16, a season best for her in the event.
Tsay took seventh in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.16, also a season best for her at that distance.
Rachel Rosenberg then put Yale on the board with a first-place finish in the one-meter diving event. Rosenberg put up 267.65 points, a score that would have beat her winning total against Dartmouth and Penn last month (265.05). Paige Meneses also netted some points for Yale, taking third place with a score of 259.40.
The night ended with a 400-yard IM exhibition. Liao clocked in the fastest time for the Bulldogs at 4:33.89, followed by Randolph (4:34.19), Nunn (4:34.73), Elizabeth Larsen (4:36.93) and Angela Lee (4:40.25).
The meet will resume tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 p.m. with the 100-yard freestyle. A heat sheet listing all of tomorrow's events is available here.
