Rosenberg to Compete at NCAA Zone Diving Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior captain Rachel Rosenberg will head to Buffalo, N.Y., at the end of this week to represent Yale at the 2012 NCAA Zone A Diving Championships.  Junior Paige Meneses qualified for Zones several times over but will not be competing.  If Rosenberg performs well enough she will join Alexandra Forrester in competing at the 2012 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on Mar. 15-17 in Auburn, Ala.

The meet will begin Friday with the preliminaries of the one-meter event.  After six dives the top 18 divers will proceed to the evening's finals.  The same progression will follow on Saturday for the three-meter event.  Platform diving will be held on Sunday, though Rosenberg will not be competing in this event.

To progress to the NCAA championships the following week, Rosenberg will have to win the one-meter event or get top two on three meter.  A fourth qualifying spot will go to the winner of platform diving.

Last year Rosenberg made it to the finals on three meter.  Her six-dive preliminary score of 248.95 points put her in 12th place and in the evening finals.  In the finals of the three-meter event Rosenberg scored an additional 227.05 points to make for a total of 476.00 points and a 14th place overall finish.  Her score of 209.55 points on one meter put her in 23rd place out of 47 total competitors but would not put her through to the one-meter finals.

Rosenberg met the one-meter NCAA Zone qualifying score of 265 points a total of five times this season, her best score coming on senior night at Kiphuth Pool against Cornell where she put up 284.62 points.  At the 2012 Ivy League Championships two weeks ago she took second place on one-meter with a score of 280.45.  Those same championships saw an Ivy League record set by Rosenberg on three meter.  While she met the NCAA Zone qualifying score of 280 points on three meter a total of three times in dual competition (against Brown, Columbia and at the HYP meet), her best performance bar none came at Ivy's.  Rosenberg put up an even 340.00 points to set a personal best, a Yale record and an Ivy League record.  As the only diver to put up more than 300 points on three meter, Rosenberg was named first-team All-Ivy and Diver of the Meet.

The 2012 NCAA Zone A Diving Championships will be held in Buffalo, N.Y., at the University of Buffalo's Alumni Arena.  Competition will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Mar. 9 and conclude on Mar. 11.
