NEW HAVEN, Conn. – On Wednesday of this week the official list of entries for the 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships was announced, and two Bulldogs find themselves in the ranks. Freshman Eva Fabian and senior Alexandra Forrester have qualified in two and three events, respectively. The meet will take place on Mar. 21-23 in Indianapolis, Ind.
In what will be her first NCAA Championships Fabian has qualified in both distance events. She is seeded highest in the 1,650-yard freestyle, 18th with a time of 16:09.81 from her first-place finish at the Ivy League Championships last week. Fabian also qualified as an optional entry in the 500-yard freestyle where she is seeded 47th with a time of 4:43.97.
Forrester qualified for two out of her three events by meeting the NCAA A-cut, meaning she had a guaranteed spot. Her first A-Cut came in the 100-yard butterfly. With her winning time from the Ivy League Championships she is seeded third in the country with a time of 51.57, nearly a whole second faster than her qualifying time of 52.51 from last year. Her next best event is the 200-yard butterfly, where she is ranked fourth with a time of 1:54.60. Finally Forrester will race in the 50-yard freestyle where she is ranked 25th with her time of 22.29 from the prelims at Ivy's.
With Fabian joining Forrester Yale doubles the number of athletes it has competing at NCAA's as compared to the year before when it was just Forrester. Other Bulldogs that made B-Cuts but did not make the final list include: freshman Casey Lincoln (1,650–yard freestyle), freshman Emma Smith (400-yard IM, 200-yard breaststroke), senior Cynthia Tsay (100 free, 100 back) and senior captain Joan Weaver (100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle).
