BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Freshman diver Lilybet MacRae has qualified for the 2014 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships following her excellent performance on Day Two of the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships. MacRae finished third in Tuesday's three-meter competition, one day after finishing third in the one-meter competition.
MacRae sat in seventh place following the prelimary round, scoring a 291.15. She was in a similar position on Monday and was again able to claw her way into third place, scoring a total of 574.90. As the top two finishers in the three-meter were the same as in the one-meter, MacRae was able to grab one of six qualification spots for NCAAs.
Diving coach Chris Bergère was happy with MacRae's performance, noting her steady, consistent approach through all of her dives today.
"She also had a few spectacular dives which always helps," he added.
The NCAA meet takes place from Mar. 20 to Mar. 22 in Minneapolis, Minn. Joining MacRae to represent the Bulldogs will be sophomore Eva Fabian, who will swim the 1,650- and 500-yard freestyle events at NCAAs.
