Yale Performs Well at Second Day of Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Yale women's swimming and diving team completed the second day of the Ohio State Invitational on Friday. Through two days of competition, the Bulldogs have scored 819.5 points and currently sit in fifth place.

The finals began with diving on Friday. In the 1-meter diving, senior Talbott Paulsen was the sole representative for the Bulldogs. She finished in eighth place, scoring 258.65 points.

The Bulldogs had three swimmers finish in the top 20 places in the 100-yard butterfly. Junior Lili Margitai placed 17th with a time of of 54.97. Senior Carrie Heilbrun finished 19th (55.57), out-touching first-year Izzi Henig (56.33) by less than half a second. Henig placed 20th in the event.

Similarly, the Bulldogs also had three top-20 finishers in the 100-yard breaststroke. First-years MaryKate Buckley (1:02.91) and Olivia Paoletti (1:03.73) paced the Bulldogs, finishing 12th and 18th, respectively. Junior Ashley Pales also performed well, swimming the race in 1:04.67 seconds and placing 20th.

In the only individual freestyle event of the day, the 200-yard freestyle, Henig and fellow first-year Raime Jones came through for the Bulldogs. In the A heat of the finals, Henig finished 10th with a time of 1:48.80. In the B heat, Jones finished 11th overall with a time of 1:48.40.

There were two relay events on Friday. Senior Bella Hindley, Buckley, Margitai and Henig comprised Yale's A relay in the 200-yard medley relay. This A relay swam a time of 1:41.73, good enough for ninth place. In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Yale found greater success. Yale's A team — made up of Jones, Henig, first-year Ashley Loomis and Hindley — finished in fifth place with a time of 7:14.84.

The third and final day of the Ohio State Invitational will start tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. The complete results from competition on Friday can be found here.
