GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Swimmers from the Yale women's swimming and diving team swam well at the second day of the 2018 US Winter Nationals. Juniors Kendall Brent and Lili Margitai, senior Destiny Nelson and first-year Raime Jones each competed in one event on Thursday.
In the first event of the day, Brent and Jones competed in the prelims of the 400-meter freestyle. Jones finished 37th, touching in at 4 minutes and 27.73 seconds. Brent, placing 19th, finished with a time of 4:20.69 and out-touched the 20th-place swimmer by a few tenths of a second. In the finals, Brent finished seventh in the C heat, swimming a time of 4:22.52 and finishing 23rd overall.
Nelson and Margitai both competed in the 200-meter individual medley, the second women's event of the day. Margitai placed 50th in the prelims, finishing at 2:22.66. Nelson finished 17th in the prelims at 2:18.80, earning a spot in the finals. In the finals, Nelson improved on her time by more than two seconds, finishing with a time of 2:16.70. Her placement of second in the C final was good enough for 18th overall.
