Annapolis, MD - Yale destroyed Cornell 219-81 while handling the Naval Academy 174-126 Saturday in Annapolis. The Bulldogs took first place finishes in seven of the sixteen events.
The Bulldogs set the tone in the opening event with first, third, fifth and seventh place finishes in the 200-meter medley relay. The Yale `A' team led by freshman Becca Stern, senior Caroline Dowd, sophomore Andrea Clifford, and junior Alexis Mann took first place with a time of 1:59.46.
In the 800-meter freestyle, junior Laura Strittmatter took first place with a time of 8:52.85. Junior Sara Fracapane and freshman Brittany Iacouzze took third and fourth place in the event, respectively.
In the 100-meter backstroke, junior Brenna Davis came in second place with a time of 1:06.45. Stern came in fourth in the race with a time of 1:07.06.
Freshman Ileanna Lucos came in first place in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:19.91.
In the 50-meter freestyle, Mann, Clifford, and Stern took second, fourth, and sixth place, respectively.
Senior Laura Aronsoon and Davis took second and third place in the 200-meter backstroke for the Bulldogs.
Yale swept the top three places in the 200-meter breaststroke with Kim, Dowd and Kiernan took first, second, and third place, respectively.
In the 400-meter freestyle, Iacouzze took first place with a time of 4:22.14.
In the 3-meter diving, Jones and Poverman took second and third place, respectively.
Kelly Zahalka took first place for the Naval Aademy in the 200-meter IM. The Bulldogs rounded out the top five with Kim, Iacouzze, Aronsson, and junior Blake Walsh taking second, third, fourth, and fifth place, respectively. The Bulldogs rounded out the day with a first place finish in the 400-meter freestyle relay. Clifford, Stern, freshman Angela Yu, and Mann took first place with a time of 3:59.20.
Yale will host Dartmouth and Penn next Friday and Saturday.
