Jan. 27, 2007
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior day went without at hitch at Kiphuth Exhibition Pool Saturday afternoon. Two seniors, Meg Gill and Moira McCloskey, combined for six individual wins as the Yale women's swimming and diving team defeated the Brown Bears 188.5-111.5.
The win extended Yale's perfect dual meet record to 8-0, and it also gave the Bulldogs their fifth Ivy League win, guaranteeing them a share of the Ivy League lead heading into next weekend's H-Y-P meet.
At the beginning of the meet, head coach Frank Keefe introduced Yale's senior class in honor of their last home meet. After the ceremony, the large crowd of families and friends on hand for the occasion were treated to another confident Yale performance, highlighted by the performances of Gill and McCloskey.
The two of them, along with freshmen Andrea Clifford and Susan Kim, were victorious in the first event, the 200 yard medley relay. After that, McCloskey went on to win the 100 and 200 yard backstroke and the 200 yard individual medley, while Gill took first in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events and the 100 yard butterfly.
Fellow senior Chase Butler also had a successful day against Brown, adding crucial points with third place finishes in both the 100 and 200 yard freestyle events and a strong third leg in Yale's winning 400 yard freestyle relay team, which also included Clifford, Alexis Mann and Jane Kim.
Next week's H-Y-P meet will be Yale's last before the championship season begins. The meet will begin on Friday at 6 pm at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool.
