The Yale women's swimming and diving team closed out its 2004-2005 regular season with a win over the Blue Hens of Delaware in Newark, DE this afternoon, 175-123. With the win, the Bulldogs improved their record to 9-4 going into the ECAC Championships and the Ivy League Championships, both of which will be held in two weeks.
Yale opened up the day strongly, taking both first and second place in the 200 Medley Relay. The team Moria McCloskey, Caroline Dowd, Meg Gill, and Becca Knicely finished first, while the team of Christine Yurechko, Holly Mazar, Katelyn Kane, Erin Carlstrom finished second.
The one-two punch in the 200 Medley Relay set the tone for the Bulldogs for the rest of the meet. Yale began with a lead that proved to be too much for the Blue Hens. The Bulldogs were led by a number of individual winners including: McCloskey (100 & 200 Freestyle), Yurechko (100 Backstroke), Holly Mazar (100 & 200 Breaststroke), Chase Butler (50 Freestyle), Laura Aronsson (200 Backstroke) and Melanie Loftus (1 meter and 3 meter diving).
The Yale team will split up in two weeks, with a portion of the team traveling to the Ivy League Championships, to be held in Princeton, NJ, and the remainder of the team competing in the ECAC Championships, to be held in Philadelphia, PA.
