New York, NY - The Yale women's swim team fell today in its season opener to Columbia. The Bulldogs lost the match 161-139. Yale had a strong showing of first place finishes: Moira McCloskey '07 in the 100 and 200 backstroke, Marilee Kiernan '09 in the 100 breaststroke, Blake Walsh '09 in the 200 fly and Liz Fogelsong '07 in 1 meter diving.
The Yale women were also second in the 400 freestyle relay. The `A' team of McCloskey, Chase Butler `07, Gill and Mann came in second with a score of 3:32.14.
The Yale freshmen swept second through fourth place in the 1000 free. Emily Cole '09 was second with 10:24.14, Laura Stritmatter `09 was third with 10:27.29 and Sarah Fracapane '09 came in fourth with a time of 10:32.52.
Mann was second in the 50 free with a time of 24.40. Mann also took third place in the 100 free with 53.69.
In the 500 free Stritmatter was second with 5:08.24. Cole was third with 5:09.33.
McCloskey was first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.89. Brenna Davis '09 was fourth with a time of 1:01.08. In the 200 back McCloskey was first with 2:04.67 and Davis was third with 2:09.58.
In the 100 breaststroke Kiernan was first with 1:06.43. French took third with 1:07.63. In the 200 breaststroke Kiernan was second with a time of 2:24.82 and Dowd was third with 2:26.84.
Walsh dominated the 200 fly with a time of 2:06.86. Liz Berger '07 was second with 2:08.47. In the 100 fly, Walsh had a time of 59.02 for second place.
In the 200 IM Walsh was second with a time of 2:10.81. In third place with a time of 2:11.05 was Bailey.
In the 1 meter diving competition, Foglesong won with 229.57 points. In the 3 meter competition, Foglesong was second with a score of 227.10.
The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow, Nov. 12, when they host Maine and Southern Connecticut at home in New Haven.
