Yale Finds Success at Nutmeg Invitational

New Haven, CT - The Elis ended their fall schedule on a strong note on Saturday and Sunday, when they hosted the Nutmeg Invitational at RJ Kiphuth Exhibition Pool. Yale was one of ten schools in the field, which included the University of Massachusetts (Atlantic 10), Syracuse University (Big East), Boston College (Atlantic Coast), Fairfield University (MAAC) and Williams College (NESCAC). Team scores were not kept.

Cristina Hession led the charge for Yale. The sophomore finished first in the 500 Yard Freestyle, posting a time of 5:01.75, over three seconds better than the second place finisher. The New Jersey native also teamed up with Katelyn Kane, Chase Butler, and Nicole Swaney to take first in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay. While team captain Caroline Stephenson finished first in the 400 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 4:32.88, Hession was not far behind, placing third.

In addition to her first place finish in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay, Swaney took second in the 200 Yard Freestyle. In the 100 Yard Butterfly, senior Rebecca Knicely finished third with a time of 59.31.

In the distance races, Laura Aronsson and Allison Rogers took first and second, respectively, in the 1650 Yard Freestyle.

After a visit to Puerto Rico for winter training over the break, Yale returns to action on January 9 when it visits Maine.
