Yale to Compete in Cissie Leary Invitational
The Bulldogs will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to compete in the Cissie Leary Invitational this weekend. This will be the third straight year that Yale has competed in this annual tournament hosted by Penn.
While last week at the Maryland Invite was Yale’s first fall tournament of year, the Cissie Leary Invitational will be the first tournament to which Yale sends its full squad.
The past two seasons, Yale has had great success in the Cissie Leary Invitational. Last season, Janet Kim ’09 won the Blue Bracket singles draw of the Cissie Leary Invitational for the second consecutive year. Senior Sarah Lederhandler won the backdraw for the Red Bracket singles draw. Senior Jessica Rhee, junior Lindsay Clark, and sophomore Vicky Brook were all finalists in their respective draws.
“I'm very excited about this weekend and I know the team is as well,” head coach Danielle Lund McNamara said. “In addition to getting a lot of good matches, it's the first chance for all of us to play the same event and spend some time together away from campus. As far as expectations, I would like to see everyone commit to working on the things we've focused on in practice, so that each player continues to improve. If we keep making small strides in every tournament we play this fall then we'll really start to see the results of our hard work pay off in the spring.”
