Kent, Lederhandler Win Respective Singles Draws
FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - Sophomore Stephanie Kent and senior captain Sarah Lederhandler won their respective singles draws Monday to help the Bulldogs finish a successful weekend at the USTA Invitational.
In the ‘C’ Flight Singles Draw, Kent rolled to a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Harvard’s Sophie Chang in the finals to win the bracket. Kent won all four of her singles matches on the weekend without dropping a single set.
Lederhandler won the ‘F’ Flight Singles Draw by cruising to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Harvard’s Samantha Gridley in the finals. Like Kent, Lederhandler won all four of her singles matches on the weekend without dropping a single set.
In the ‘B’ Flight Singles Draw, freshman Elizabeth Epstein advanced all the way to the finals with three victories before dropping a 6-3, 6-3 match to Liberty’s Jordan Jenkins.
Lederhandler and teammate senior Jessica Rhee fell in the finals of the ‘C’ Flight Doubles Draw 9-7 to the No. 1 seeded doubles team from Brown.
The Bulldogs will be off next weekend before hosting the ITA East Regionals Oct. 23 through Oct. 27.
