NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Four Yale singles players advanced to the round of 16 at the Wilson / ITA Northeast Regionals Sunday at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center at Yale University. Sophomore Stephanie Kent, sophomore Vicky Brook, junior Stevi Petrelli and senior Jessica Rhee all won two matches on the day to advance.
In the round of 64, Kent pulled out a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory over Boston University’s Petra Santini. Kent then rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 victory over No. 17 seed Elmine Botes of Fairleigh Dickinson.
No. 6 seed sophomore Vicky Brook needed three sets to advance to the round of 32 as she defeated Brown’s Julie Flanzer 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-2. Brook then pulled out a 1-6, 6-0, 6-2 win over No. 17 seed Vivien Laszloffy of Boston University.
Junior Stevi Petrelli cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 17 seed Olga Khmylev of Boston College to advance to the round of 32 as well. In the round of 32, Petrelli took down No. 16 seed Diana Popescu of Buffalo 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
No. 17 seed Senior Jessica Rhee rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Harvard’s Samantha Rosekrans to advance to the round of 32. Rhee once again rolled in the round of 32 as she defeated the No. 8 seed Amy Zhang of Rutgers in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.
No. 11 seed freshman Elizabeth Epstein defeated Syracuse’s Emily Harman 6-4, 6-0 in the round of 64 to advance to the round of 32 before losing in three sets to No. 17 seed Jillian Santos 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
On Sunday morning, the doubles team of sophomores Vicky Brook and Stephanie Kent advanced to the quarterfinals
The No. 7 seeded duo defeated the No. 9 seeded doubles team of Emily Harman and Christina Tan of Syracuse 8-5.
Brook and Kent will be back in action Monday morning aga inst the No. 4 seeded Denise Harajanto and Diana Popescu of Buffalo.
