No. 47 Yale Bests No. 41 Utah

 

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Coming off a loss against No. 4 Notre Dame on Saturday, No. 47 Yale impressed on Sunday by defeating No. 41 Utah 5-2 in the consolation round at the ITA Division I Kickoff Weekend. The Bulldogs swept No. 1 - No. 4 singles, and captured the doubles point as well by winning the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches.

Junior Victoria Brook won a three-set match at No. 1 singles against No. 82 Anastasia Putilina (6-4, 4-6, 6-4). Sophomore No. 65 Elizabeth Epstein defeated No. 60 Evgenia Kryuchkova in a compact two-set match (6-4,6-4). Freshman Blair Seideman came back to win the match after dropping the first set at No. 3 singles (3-6, 6-4, 6-1). Classmate Annie Sullivan also overcame a deficit in the first set to win the match in an exciting third-set tiebreaker at No. 4 singles (0-6, 6-3, 7-6(5)).

In doubles, Sullivan and junior Stephanie Kent won at the No. 2 spot by an 8-5 score. Epstein and freshman Kim Szokol's win at No. 3 doubles rounded out the match for the Bulldogs, winning 8-4.

The Bulldogs will travel to Vanderbilt next Saturday, ranked No. 38 in the nation.
