ATLANTA, Ga. – Saturday, the Yale women's tennis team defeated Oklahoma State in doubles and fell to Georgia Tech in singles in the second day of Yellowjacket Invitational action.
On the doubles side, Yale boasted two new-look teams getting their first victories against Oklahoma State. At No. 1 were senior Vicky Brook and freshman Hanna Yu, who took down the Oklahoma State side in a 9-7 showdown. Yale also pulled away with a victory in the No. 3 spot, where junior Elizabeth Epstein and freshman Amber Li won an 8-4 victory in their first time playing together. Finally, senior captain Steph Kent and sophomore Annie Sullivan dropped their match 8-4.
On the singles side, Yale took on Georgia Tech and lost seven matches to a team with five of its seven players ranked within the top 125 by the ITA. Yale went with a lineup of Epstein at No. 1, Brook at No. 2, sophomore Blair Seideman at No. 3, Li at No. 4, Yu at No. 5, Kent at No. 6 and Sullivan at No. 7. Seideman and Sullivan had the closest matches, with both players pushing their opponent to three sets before dropping the match.
Sunday, Yale will take on Oklahoma State in singles and Georgia in doubles as they complete the tournament. The team is currently 0-2 in singles and 1-1 in doubles.
