Draws For USTA/ITA Division I Women’s Northeast Regional Championship Released
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Four of six singles players for the women's tennis team have first round byes, while all three doubles teams hope to win two matches tomorrow.
In the singles draw, Yale has six players competing. Junior Elizabeth Epstein is the tournament's sixth overall seed, and hence drew a first round bye. She will play the winner of the match between Columbia freshman Crystal Leung and Binghamton's Jillian Santos in Saturday's second match. Senior Vicky Brook, the seventh seed, also has a first round bye before her matchup against the winner of Boston College's Olga Khymylev and a qualifier. Sophomore Blair Seideman has the 11th seed and a bye, and will play the winner of Brown's Ariel Caldwell and UMass' Julia Comas in the second round of main draw singles play. Freshman Amber Li is Yale's final seeded player, and after her bye will have to face the victor of the matchup between Columbia's Renata Arshavskaya and St. Peter's' Alex Livingston. Sophomore Annie Sullivan will play against Sami Lieb of BU in the first round of singles, and should she win would face Brown's Jessica Harrow. Finally, freshman Hanna Yu will face Drexel's Zeynap Mafa in the first round of singles, and will be then be faced with Casey Herzberg of Brown in the second round should she win.
Doubles play will begin Friday, and two rounds will be completed before the end of the day. Brook and Yu were given the tournament's sixth seed, and will face Penn's Whitfield/Depaoli pairing at four o'clock. Seideman will play with senior captain Steph Kent, and will face off against FDU's Rappoport and Botes at three. Finally, Sullivan and Li were given the 16th seed and will play their first match against LIU's Pavlovic and Maas.
