Yale Readies for Regionals
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Starting Friday, Yale women's tennis will head to West Point to compete in the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships.
At the tournament, Yale will look to repeat the stellar performance the team had last year, when Bulldog players finished 17-6 in singles play and 10-3 in doubles. On top of the excellent record of the team, sophomore Hanna Yu advanced to the semifinals and senior captain Elizabeth Epstein went all the way to the finals of the singles bracket. In doubles, both the pairings of Yu and Vicky Brook '12 and junior Annie Sullivan and sophomore Amber Li made it to the semifinals, shepherding in a season of dominant doubles play for the Bulldogs.
This year, Yale will send six players to compete in singles. Epstein, Yu and Sullivan will be joined by junior Blair Seideman and freshmen Courtney Amos and Madeleine Hamilton. In doubles, Head Coach Danielle McNamara will try out new partnerships as the team readies to enter the winter and spring seasons. Epstein will be playing with Yu, and her usual partner, Sullivan, will play with Hamilton. Finally, Seideman and Li will play together.
Hamilton and Sullivan will be the fourth seed, and will start play against Jaime Yapp and Stephanie Do, from Penn. Epstein and Yu, the eighth seed, will kick off play against Christine Ordway and Dena Tanebaum of Cornell. Finally, Li and Seideman will go up against the tournament's eighth seed in Buffalo's Miranda Podias and Tanvi Shah.
Singles draws have not yet been posted, but when they become available they will be on the Tournament Website.
