NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After winning the Ivy League championship for the third season in a row, the No. 37 Yale women's tennis team has earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament as the league's automatic qualifier. While the Bulldogs shared the Ivy League title with No. 57 Columbia this year, they earned the automatic berth because of their victory over the Lions on April 14. Tuesday night the Bulldogs find out which team, and where, they will be playing when the tournament begins May 10.
This will be Yale's third straight NCAA Tournament appearance. Last season the Bulldogs entered the tournament ranked No. 29 and defeated No. 42 Saint Mary's (Calif.) in the first round before falling to No. 5 Stanford in the second. The Bulldogs also reached the second round in 2011.
The tournament includes 64 teams, with 16 schools hosting first- and second-round matches May 10-12. The 16 teams left after the second round head to the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Urbana, Ill., where Illinois hosts the NCAA Championship May 16-27.
The tournament selection show will be broadcast live on NCAA.com at 5:30 p.m. Eastern:
