Sullivan is Tournament's Top Player

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Six members of the Yale women's team will compete against the best collegiate players in the region this weekend at the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships hosted by Harvard University. The Bulldogs boast one of the strongest delegations in the tournament, with two of the tournament's five ranked singles players (senior captain No. 88 Annie Sullivan and sophomore No. 119 Madeleine Hamilton) on their roster.

Sullivan enters the weekend as the tournament's highest ranked player. She will be looking to improve on her performance in last year's Regional Championships, where she entered as the No. 12 seed but made an earlier-than-expected exit in the round of 32. Sullivan has made significant strides in her game since then, going on a 19-match winning streak at singles last spring and qualifying for the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships this fall.

Joining Sullivan in the tournament's main draw singles bracket are Hamilton, sophomore Ree Ree Li, freshman Sherry Li and junior Hanna Yu. Hamilton and Yu are veterans of the tournament; Hamilton reached the round of 16 last year, while Yu went as far as the semifinals during her freshman year. Ree Ree Li and Sherry Li are both rookies in the tournament.

Freshman Caroline Lynch, who earned a bid in the tournament's qualifying singles bracket, is the sixth and final Bulldog in the tournament. She will begin play Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with a match against Hofstra's Louise Lopez. Should she advance through two rounds of play, she will join her teammates in the main draw action.

The Bulldogs have also earned three bids in the 64-pair doubles draw. Hamilton/Sullivan, Li/Li and Lynch/Yu are the pairs.

The tournament begins Thursday with the qualifying round of singles. Doubles begin Friday afternoon, and the main draw singles action opens the following day. Both the doubles and the singles finals will be played on Tuesday.
