No. 36 Women’s Tennis Looks Strong on First Day of Yale Classic

Hamilton, Sullivan Win at Nos. 1 and 2

NEW HAVEN, Conn. —Friday the No. 36-ranked Yale women's tennis team played its first matches of the Yale Classic, a four-team event hosted in the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. The Bulldogs won five of eight singles matches and split four doubles matches against No. 64 Boston College. 

Yale had a firm grasp on the top of the ladder, with freshman Madeleine Hamilton, senior captain Annie Sullivan and junior Hanna Yu winning at Nos. 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Continuing down the lineup, it was sophomore Ree Ree Li at No. 4 and freshman Sherry Li at No. 5 who each played to three sets, with the former taking a loss and the latter coming out on top. Junior Amber Li also had a close match, falling 6-3, 7-5 to her opponent at No. 6. Rounding out the lineup, sophomore Courtney Amos won when her opponent retired at No. 7, while freshman Caroline Lynch lost 6-3, 6-1 at No. 8. 

At doubles, Hamilton and Ree Ree Li combined for a win at No. 2, and Amber Li and Sherry Li followed up with their own success at No. 3.

The Bulldogs will face Cornell tomorrow at 10 a.m.
