NEW HAVEN, Conn. —Friday the No. 36-ranked Yale women's tennis team will head south to compete in one of the nation's most prestigious tournaments, the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic. The tournament, hosted by the University of Alabama, will feature a single-elimination format with a consolation bracket.
The Bulldogs (3-2, 0-0 Ivy) are coming off a 7-0 win over Boston University last weekend. Sophomore standout Ree Ree Li, who has been named a player to watch by the Blue Gray Classic, defeated her opponent in straight sets at No. 2, while also pairing with classmate Madeleine Hamilton for a victory at No. 1 doubles.
In the first round of play on Friday, Yale will take on No. 21 Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are 8-1 this season, their only loss coming on Jan. 25 against No. 12 Vanderbilt. Should the Bulldogs defeat their first round opponents, they will move onto the semifinals to play the winner between No. 29 Oklahoma State and No. 24 Rice.
The remainder of the bracket is filled by No. 19 Auburn, No. 42 Illinois, No. 75 Tulane and the host, No. 14 Alabama. This will be Yale's second year competing in the tournament, having reached the semifinals with a win over Pepperdine last year.
Yale's match against Texas Tech will be played at 5:00 p.m. EST on Friday. For more tournament information, please click here.
