No. 52 Bulldogs Down William & Mary 6-1
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. —The No. 52-ranked Yale women's tennis team closed out its weekend trip to Virginia Sunday with 6-1 win over William & Mary. The victory over the Tribe puts the Bulldogs at 1-1 on the weekend and 8-7 overall.
After a heartbreaker against No. 30 Rice on Saturday, the Bulldogs came out firing Sunday and were able to earn a quick doubles point. Freshman Sherry Li and senior captain Annie Sullivan won at No. 2, while sophomore Madeleine Hamilton and junior Amber Li followed up at No. 3 to get the lead for the Bulldogs. It was the same doubles lineup that Yale used on Saturday.
At singles, Hamilton cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 1 over William & Mary's Leeza Nemchionv, clinching the match for the Bulldogs and earning her second singles win of the weekend. Sullivan and Sherry Li were also repeat winners, playing again at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. Junior Hanna Yu, who played at No. 2 in both matches this weekend, defeated the nation's No. 113 player, Maria Belaya, who retired in the second set.
With this weekend's matches behind them, the Bulldogs now turn their attention to the Ivy League season. The Bulldogs open play at home against No. 66 Princeton on Apr. 4. The next day they host Penn.
