Yale Beats Harvard

No. 49 Elis Defeat No. 47 Harvard 5-2

NEW HAVEN, Conn. —The No. 49-ranked Yale women's tennis team defeated No. 47 Harvard by a score of 5-2 Sunday at the Yale Tennis Center. The Bulldogs move to 13-8 overall and 5-1 in Ivy League play with the win.

Yale started off the match by claiming the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. Sophomores Madeleine Hamilton and Ree Ree Li, the nation's No. 65 doubles pair, earned a win at No. 2 to help give Yale the early advantage.

At singles, junior Hanna Yu continued her streak at the top position, edging Spencer Liang in three sets. Senior captain Annie Sullivan, who has been perfect in Ivy League competition at No. 3, also played true to form, defeating June Lee 6-3, 6-1. At Nos. 5 and 6, freshman Sherry Li and sophomore Courtney Amos each earned a 6-3, 6-4 win.

Despite the Bulldogs' strong performance on the court, Yale saw its hopes of a fourth consecutive Ivy League title slip away Sunday as Princeton clinched an outright championship with a victory over Columbia. Nonetheless, the Bulldogs will finish off their season at home on Apr. 26 and could take second place with a win over Brown.
