Finke Defeats No. 99 Knutson at No. 1 Singles

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In the opening match of the spring season, the Yale women's tennis team was defeated by Syracuse 4-3 on the Bulldogs' home courts. Despite the loss, junior Carol Finke helped contribute two points to Yale in her victories at singles and doubles.

In the No. 1 singles spot, Finke emerged victorious in a tight match against her nationally ranked opponent, No. 99 Gabriela Knutson. While Finke was defeated in the first set, she came back to win the match 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Finke returned to the courts to play at No. 1 doubles with junior Elizabeth Zordani. The Bulldogs gained another point after Finke and Zordani comfortably defeated Knutson and Miranda Ramirez 6-3. Yale's final point came from juniors Sunday Swett and Valerie Shklover's default win against Ester Liba Mesh and Anna Shkudun.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Thursday, playing at home against Boston College at 5:00 p.m.
