Yale Defeats San Diego 4-3

Lynch Seals Match Point; Dhingra Picks up Two Victories

SAN DIEGO – The Yale women's tennis team kicked off the spring tour with a 4-3 victory against San Diego State. After losing the doubles point, Yale won four singles contests to take the match.

The Bulldogs conceded the doubles point after losses on courts 1 and 2. In the No. 3 spot, sophomore Amy Yang and freshman Opala Dhingra overcame Olivia Larsson and Alli Valk 6-4.

At No. 4 singles, junior Elizabeth Zordani cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Mia Smith, putting Yale level with San Diego at 1-1. Dhingra then won her second match of the day with her 6-2, 6-2 victory against Marina Colvee on court 6. Junior Valerie Shklover contributed Yale's third straight point after defeating Paola Diaz 6-2, 7-6(8).

San Diego answered with two victories on courts 1 and 2 to tie the match 3-3. Coming back from a first-set loss, senior Caroline Lynch prevailed 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 against Berta Acero to clinch the match point.

Yale will next compete against Loyola Marymount on Wednesday, Mar. 15 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time.
