    Sophomore Opala Dhingra, first-year Samantha Martinelli and senior Valerie Shklover represented the Yale women’s tennis team at the ITA Northeast Regionals on Saturday. Dhingra competed in the consolation draw, while Martinelli and Shklover took on highly seeded opponents in the singles main draw round of 16. The major storyline of the day was the success of Martinelli, who emerged victorious and preserved her unbeaten record in singles so far this season.
  • Yale Bests Brown at Brown Quad

    Four members of the Yale women’s tennis team competed in Providence on Saturday in the Brown-hosted Brown Quad tournament. As the ITA Northeast Regionals were taking place in Philadelphia on the same day, Yale was unable to bring its full roster; however, the players who did make the trip posted impressive results. Most notably, three Bulldogs – Caroline Amos, Opala Dhingra and Amy Yang – won their singles matches against opponents from conference opponent Brown.

    Five members of the Yale women’s tennis team competed in Philadelphia at the ITA Northeast Regionals on Friday, notching a combined 7-3 record in singles and winning their only doubles match. On a day when each player contributed with a victory, first-year Samantha Martinelli and senior Valerie Shklover stood out, as the two won back-to-back singles matches to advance to the main draw round of 16.

Notably, all three singles competitors who played on Thursday – Valerie Shklover, Amy Yang and Elizabeth Zordani – won their matches in straight sets to advance to the second round of the main draw.

    The Yale women’s tennis team hosted the final day of the Bulldog Invitational on Sunday, facing a tough regional competitor in Boston College. Although the opposing side won seven matches to Yale’s five, there were bright spots for the Elis across the board, especially in singles. For the second straight day, Yale’s top performers included Opala Dhingra, Samantha Martinelli and Elizabeth Zordani; junior Amy Yang also impressed with a nail-biter three-set victory in singles.

Five Yale players claimed singles victories on the day, with first-year Samantha Martinelli and senior Sunday Swett doing so in three sets. Opala Dhingra and Elizabeth Zordani were also standout performers for Yale, winning matches in both singles and doubles.

    The Yale women’s tennis team hosted the opening day of the Bulldog Invitational on Friday, taking on a strong Dartmouth side in a competitive match. Although the Big Green ultimately won more matches on the day, the Elis played well across the board in their first action of the season. Notably, first-year players Samantha Martinelli and Mimi Levine both posted three-set victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively; four other players also did well to win a pair of matches in doubles.

    The Yale women’s tennis team will kick off its 2017-18 campaign at home on Friday by hosting the annual Bulldog Invitational. This year’s Invitational will attract players from a mix of seven conference and regional competitors: Boston College, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard and Massachusetts. As the first team event of the year, the tournament will provide a great opportunity for the Elis to get back into the swing of collegiate tennis after a long time away from competition.
  • Levine Shows Resilience at All-American Championships

    First-year player Mimi Levine represented the Yale women’s tennis team at the ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday, competing in the prestigious tournament’s qualifying singles draw. By the end of a long day, Levine had battled out two three-set matches against elite singles players, narrowly dropping her main draw match but bouncing back to win in the consolation draw.

    David Swensen's friends and colleagues have honored him by contributing to the Swensen Initiative, which produced extraordinarily generous gifts to Yale's endowment. David and his wife Meghan McMahon ’87 have decided to designate $2 million of those contributions to set up a challenge fund for endowing Yale's women's and men's tennis programs.

    The Yale women’s tennis team will send one player – first year Mimi Levine – to compete in the prestigious ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday. As one of the major events of the season, the All-American Championships feature the very best competitors in collegiate tennis. Levine, who earned a Wild Card selection to the tournament’s qualifying singles draw earlier this month, will look to make a statement in her first official action as a Bulldog.
  • Three Freshman Recruits to Join Bulldogs

    This upcoming fall, the Yale women’s tennis team will welcome three freshman recruits to the team, Lauren Gillinov, Mimi Levine and Samantha Martinelli. Tennisrecruiting.net ranked Yale’s incoming freshmen as the No. 7 recruiting class in the nation – the highest ranked class in the program’s history.
