NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale women's tennis team (12-9, 4-1 Ivy) honored their seasons with a dominant win against Dartmouth (3-16, 0-5 Ivy) in their last home match of the season, winning 4-0 to keep themselves in the hunt for the Ivy League championship.
The Bulldogs won in No. 1 and No. 2 singles to take the doubles point rather straightforwardly. Jessie Gong and Samantha Martinelli won their match 6-3, before Caroline Dunleavy and Raissa Lou toughed out a 7-5 set to give their team the early 1-0 lead. Caroline Amos and Kathy Wang were knotted at 5-5 before their match ended early.
Yale continued their crusade in singles, winning three consecutive matches in straight sets to register the victory. Gong won 6-2, 6-2 to start things off, before Martinelli followed it up with a 6-1, 7-6(5) win. Dunleavy ended match play with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the No. 2 spot. Lou, Lauren Gillinov and Amy Yang finished their matches early as a result.
Prior to the match, Amos and Yang were honored for their contributions to the team over the past four years. Yang is currently the captain of the team and has registered over eighty wins in singles and doubles over her four years. Amos, the winner of the John A. Blum '77 Most Improved Player Award last year, has won over twenty-five matches in her four years.
The team will wrap up their regular season next weekend with a road trip to face Penn and Princeton, the latter of which currently sits at the top of the Ivy League standings.
