Yale Cruises Past Connecticut

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale women's tennis team swept Connecticut, 7-0, at the Cullman Courts on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs, who are ranked 59th in the latest ITA poll, opened their spring season by capturing every match at the event, winning all six singles matches and three doubles contests.

Yale's No. 1 doubles team of Karlyn Martin and Ashley Martin defeated Connecticut's Whitney Simcik and Alison Adamski, 8-2. The Bulldogs also received a doubles win from Christine Alford and Aimee Kim, who defeated Barbara Schumsky and Ashley Petruzzi 8-4 at the No. 2 spot. Rashmee Patil and Reshmi Srinath won their match 8-2.

Alford, Yale's No. 1 seed, paced the singles competition for Yale, beating Simcik, 6-1, 6-0.

The Bulldogs return to action this Friday, February 6, at 2:30 p.m., to host Penn State at the Cullman Courts in New Haven, Conn.
