NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale women's tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season today, crushing Seton Hall 7-0 at home. Five of the six Bulldog wins in singles matches came in straight sets, and Rashmee Patil and Olivia Nix won their No. 2 doubles match convincingly, shutting out the Pirate team of Iva Gyurgina and Danielle Viola, 8-0.
"We've been talking about playing disciplined tennis, and not being comforted by just a win," Head Coach Katie Granson said. "We want to win the right way."
The Bulldogs did exactly that. Patil defeated Viviana Figueroa at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2, and Janet Kim easily downed Amanda El-Tobgy in the No. 2 slot, 6-0, 6-2. Aimee Kim, Ashley Miles and Nix also won their matches in straight sets, and No. 6 Christine Alford battled back in her match to win, downing Gyurgina 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.
"We're happy, but there are tougher teams out there we want to beat," Granson said.
The Bulldogs' next match is against intrastate rival UConn on Sat., Feb. 18 in New Haven.
