NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale women's tennis team continued its early-season dominance this afternoon in New Haven, defeating intrastate rival UConn 7-0 to improve its record to 3-0. The Bulldogs took every singles match in straight sets and swept all three doubles matches in the impressive win.
With the three doubles wins, the Bulldogs took a quick 1-0 lead. Christine Alford and Aimee Kim downed Christine Burek and Jaclyn Shapiro 8-1 in the No. 1 slot, Rashmee Patil and Olivia Nix defeated Liz Dibbs and Jessica Porter 8-2 at No. 2, and Lindsey Dashiell and Janet Kim took care of Ashley Petruzzi and BreAnn Cheung 8-2 at No. 3.
"I was very happy with our No. 3 doubles team," Head Coach Katie Granson said. "[Dashiell and Janet Kim] were both serving well and playing with a lot of confidence."
Yale was no less dominant in singles, sweeping all six matches. At No. 1, Patil beat Burek 6-0, 6-1 and Ashley Miles easily handled Dibbs in the No. 4 slot, downing her opponent 6-0, 6-2.
"Ashley played a great match," Granson said. "She's been working really hard on her rally balls in practice and getting a little more height and spin on her shots."
Yale travels to Massachusetts next weekend to tangle with Boston College in Chestnut Hill on Sat., Feb. 24 and Boston University in Boston on Sun., Feb. 25. The opponents are certainly formidable - BC is currently No. 51 in the ITA Collegiate Rankings, and BU already has a win over an Ivy League team under its belt, as the Terriers defeated Columbia 5-2 on Sun., Feb. 5. Granson, however, said that the Bulldogs would be up to the challenge.
"It will be a good time - we'll get to see where we stand," she said. "It'll be a good test for our team."
