Yale Upsets No. 67 Boston University 6-1

Feb. 18, 2007

New Haven, CT - Yale (2-4) bounced back from two tough losses to ranked opponents last week to defeat No. 67 Boston University (5-1) 6-1 Saturday in its home opener. The Bulldogs came up with big victories at No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 singles and grabbed the doubles point in the match, the fourth against a ranked opponent this season.

Sophomore Janet Kim defeated Boston University's Erin Katims at No. 1 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Sarah Lederhandler, playing at No. 2 for the first time all season, beat Jana Sdavskaya 6-2, 7-6. Senior Christine Alford, freshman Jessica Rhee and sophomore Lilian Nguyen also came up with victories at No. 3, 4, and 6 singles, respectively.

The Bulldogs also took the doubles point as both the senior team of Alford and Olivia Nix and the freshmen team of Lederhandler and Rhee pulled off victories.

Head Coach Danielle Lund said Yale's performance shows that the team has benefited from the tough schedule so far.

"I'm extremely proud of our team's performance today," Lund said. "We've had a very challenging schedule so far and it paid off today with the level of play that we had in singles and doubles. Even though we came up short in our recent matches against ranked opponents, we learned from each experience, stay positive and kept trying to make small improvements which paid off against BU. They were 5-0 going into their match today with wins over Columbia, Brown and Harvard not to mention the fact that they recently made it into the national rankings. Our team competed well in all positions and showed signs of great improvement."

The Bulldogs play Boston College Friday at home in their next match.
