ITHACA, NY - After a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Columbia yesterday, Yale women's tennis came back with a vengeance against Cornell today in Ithaca, defeating the Big Red, 6-1. The Bulldogs (7-8, 2-2) swept the doubles matches and won all but one singles match to even their Ivy League record.
Yale jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead by winning all three doubles matches. No. 1 Rashmee Patil and Olivia Nix downed Elizabeth Googe and Shayna Miller, No. 2 Christina Cutter and Aimee Kim beat Kasia Preneta and Liying Wang, 8-4, and Janet Kim and Lindsey Dashiell nipped Mollie Edinson and Catherine Duboc, 8-6.
The Bulldogs continued the momentum into singles play, where the top three seeds scored straight set victories. No. 1 Patil smashed Edinson, 6-2, 6-2, No. 2 Janet Kim defeated Prenata, 6-1, 6-2, and No. 3 Aimee Kim downed Tamara John, 6-2, 6-4. No. 4 Ashley Miles dropped her first set 6-4 to Nisha Suda, but came back to win the match in three sets. No. 6 Cutter rounded out the Bulldog victories with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Googe.
The Bulldogs' next match will be againt Harvard on Fri., Apr. 21 in New Haven. The Crimson are currently first in the Ivy League with a 15-6 record, and are 4-0 against Ancient Eight foes.
